EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Philip II of Macedon. 3rd century BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 11.51 g, 12h). Baumreiter/Verwilderte type. Mint in the Carpathian region. Celticized head of Zeus right / Plumed horseman riding left, holding branch behind him. Cf. OTA 140; cf. Lanz 423-28; cf. KMW 1090; cf. CCCBM I 65; CNG E-590, lot 2. Toned, scratches, traces of find patina. VF. Very rare variety. The second and finest known.

All references cited have a branch or scepter between the rider and the horse’s head. This specimen has the branch behind the rider and is not recorded in any of the reference cited, only one lesser grade specimen in CoinArchives.
