TO COMMEMORATE THE UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA 31^st MAY 1910, winged Mercury alighting over sea, holding wreath and cornucopia from which bounty spills; in background, frigate under sail and radiant sun / TER HERDENKING VAN DE VEREENIGING VAN ZUID AFRIKA, crown surrounded by four circular cameos containing the coats-of-arms of the Union’s territories, each identified by a ribbon: CAPE COLONY, NATAL, ORANGE FREE STATE, and TRANSVAAL; across upper field, 31 MEI - 1910; all within roped border.
