MESOPOTAMIA, Rhesaena. Trajan Decius. AD 249-251. Æ Dupondius (27mm, 12.85 g, 1h). Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Eagle standing left, with wreath in beak, within tetrastyle temple seen in perspective; below, half-length figure of river–god Chaboras swimming left between two palms. Castelin, Rhesaena 57 (B2/b4); RPC IX 1557. Brown surfaces, light porosity. Near VF. Rare.

From the Kelly Ramage Collection.

The reverse legend on all of Trajan Decius’ coins at Rhesaena honors Legio III Parthica who was stationed there as protection against a Partian attack which never came. Upon his death in June 251, the legion moved to Osrhoene and coinage ceased to be struck at Rhesaena.

Closing Date and Time: 16 July 2025 at 12:48:20 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
