CILICIA, Mallus. Valerian I. AD 253-260. Æ (32mm, 20.88 g, 11h). Laureate and cuirassed bust right, drapery on left shoulder, seen from the front, gorgoneion on breastplate / Amphilochus standing facing, head left, holding laurel branch; at his feet, boar standing left; on right, tripod on base entwined by serpent. RPC X Online 60492; SNG BN 1933; SNG Levante 1298. Green-brown surfaces with earthen highlights, slight porosity, edge flaw. VF.

Amphilochus was the son of Apollo and and one of the Epigonoi (Seven against Thebes). After the Trojan War he founded of the city of Mallus. He was known as a seer and built temples to Apollo in several cities including Mopsus and Colophon.
