LYDIA, Hypaepa. Tiberius. AD 14-37. Æ (19mm, 4.51 g, 6h). Homonoia with Sardis. Sakantes(?), strategos. Laureate head right / Demos of Sardis standing right, clasping hands with Demos of Hypaepa standing left, monogram between. Altınoluk –; Hochard –; Kurth 43 var. (monogram); RPC I 2538E var. (same). Red-brown surfaces, porosity, lamination flaw, slightly off center. Fine. Extremely rare with an unpublished monogram.

Each of the three coins cited in RPC have a central monogram which reads CTPA, naming Sakantes as strategos. The present coin has a different monogram, seemingly composed of MAE with an O or Ω above the left bar of the M. The city ethnic for Sardis is clear but the rest of the legend is not, this coin may be of a different magistrate.
