Aelia Flaccilla. Augusta, AD 379-386/8. Æ (22.5mm, 5.75 g, 11h). Antioch mint, 3rd officina. Struck under Theodosius I, AD 383-388. Pearl-diademed and draped bust right / Victory seated right on column, inscribing Christogram on shield resting on column to right; –|T//ANTΓ. RIC IX 61.2 var. (Victory seated on column not cuirass); LRBC 2747 corr./var. (placement of T; same). Dark brown-green and earthen patina, minor cleaning marks. Good VF. Very rare issue. Most dies for this issue appear to have Victory seated on a column and not on a cuirass as recorded in RIC IX and LRBC. An attractive example for this issue. |
