Ti. Veturius. 137 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.88 g, 1h). Rome mint. Helmeted and draped bust of Mars right; X (mark of value) to left / Oath-taking scene: youth kneeling left, head right, between two soldiers, each of whom holds a spear and sword that touches a pig held by the youth. Crawford 234/1; Sydenham 527; Veturia 1; RBW 969. Toned, minor marks, small edge split. Good VF.

From RSC: “This gens was one of the most ancient of Rome, it was patrician and plebeian, and is said to have been of Sabine origin. The reverse type represents the mode of taking an oath amongst the inhabitants of the Italian states, and may refer to an ancestor who took an active part in the close of the third Samnite war in B.C. 290.”
