Radiate head of Antiochos on central boss of a Macedonian shield / Zeus standing left, holding wreath; [two monograms to left]. SC 1392; Levante, Alexandreia 1–4 var. (unlisted dies); HGC 9, 653. Dark green patina, encrusted, cleaning/smoothing scratches. Near VF. Extremely rare, only four noted by Levante (three of which are in public collections [Berlin (2) and Paris], the other in the Houghton collection [CSE 2, 328 (ex SNG Levante 1831)]), no additional coins in SCO, and only one example in CoinArchives (CNG 43 [1997], lot 659 = CNG 42 [1997], lot 534). |
