SOUTHERN LEVANT or ARABIA, Uncertain mint. Late 5th-mid 4th centuries BC. AR Tetradrachm (20.5mm, 16.40 g, 9h). Imitating Athens. Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Cf. Van Alfen, Studies, Group SI, 1 (highly similar style; Saba’ in Southern Arabia). For prototype: cf. Kroll 8; cf. HGC 4, 1597. Light iridescent tone, slight weakness to strike, faint scratch in field on reverse. Near EF. Very rare. |
