Northern France, Paris. Circa AD 1460. Leaf (3.74”x4.69”). Medieval Book of Hours. Illuminated leaf containing a prayer followed by the first part of the Ambrosian Hymn Te Deum which reads:
“Te Deum laudamus: te Dominum confitemur
Te aeternum Patrem omnis terra veneratur.
Tibi omnes Angeli; tibi Caeli et universae Potestates;
Tibi Cherubim et Seraphim incessabili voce proclamant:
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra maiestatis gloriae tuae.
Te gloriosus Apostolorum chorus,
Te Prophetarum lau[dabilis numerus]”
Decorated with lovely floral decoration at borders and illumination around capital letters and throughout the text. From a prayer book worthy of someone of substantial means for the time. Attractive gold, blue, red, green, and white illumination. Good ink, quite clear and readable. Slight browning at edge, minor stain, small old price and code penciled in at lower margin. Good VF. A wonderful leaf.
