POTTERY. Magna Graecia. Apulia. 6th-4th Cent. BCE. (195 mm tall x 70 mm wide). An epichysis with squat body that tapers to a trumpeted, modelled foot. Shoulder of the vessel rises to a long thin neck which then splits to form a long spout and a high handle that terminates at the shoulder. Small molded cherub embellishment at back of spout on each side. Red and black glaze present over piece. On the body, a pattern of two leaves surrounds the top portion of the vessel. On shoulder, thin leaves extend vertically surrounding. Minor losses to glazing. A wonderful piece that would make an excellent display item. |
