POTTERY. Magna Graecia. 8th-7th Cent. BCE. (175 mm tall x 110 mm wide). Amphorskos with bulbous, tear drop shaped body that tapers at a small, trumpeted foot and rounds to form a shoulder that extends into a squat neck and straight lip. Two small handles extend from mid neck to the shoulder of the vessel. Etching and glazing present, suggesting the body was decorated in several registers of animals and geometric patterns. While only partial glaze is present on the body to suggest the form of a bull standing, on the shoulder, two swans appear on either side of the container, surrounded by floral designs. Significant loss of glazing. Minor chip at rim, otherwise intact. |
