ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Cnut. 1016-1035. AR Penny (19mm, 1.00 g, 4h). Pointed Helmet type (BMC xiv, Hild. G). Lewes mint; Leofa, moneyer. Struck circa 1023-1030. Bust left, wearing pointed helmet; trefoil-tipped scepter before / + LEOFΛ ON ON LÆPPEE, voided short cross, limbs united at base by two concentric circles with pellet in center; in each angle, broken annulet enclosing pellet. North 787; SCBC 1158. Lightly toned, crimped flan with associated cracks, peck marks. Near VF. Interesting reverse legend. Very rare.
