Chester A. Arthur Indian Peace Medal. Silver plated bronze (75mm x 59mm, 142.1 g, 12h). Philadelphia mint. By Charles E. Barber and George T. Morgan. Dated 1881. • CHESTER A. ARTHUR • PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES 1881, bare head right / Settler standing facing, head right, resting hand on plow; to right, American Indian standing left, hand on breast, holding short staff; in background to left; woman holding a child in front of log cabin and man plowing right; above, PEACE within glory of rays; in exergue, crossed tomahawk and peace pipe within wreath. Julian IP-45; Prucha 56. Toned, holed at 12 o’clock for suspension, hairlines, plating worn through on high points. Good VF.

The mint report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1884 showed that thirty-seven bronze Arthur peace medals had been struck, apparently, for sale to collectors. Five silver and five more bronze medals were ordered later for presentation to the Indians
