Repub Ameri Medal. WM Medal (33mm, 8.77 g, 12h). By Thomas Wyon. Dated 1799, struck circa 1800. Bust of Washington right / Scroll inscribed REPUB/ AMERI over crossed cannon, fasces, and caduceus. Baker 69; Musante GW-62. Mirrored fields with pleasant darker toning, pierced. Near EF. A charming white metal piece.

The dates of Washington’s birth and death on the obverse are incorrect. He was born on 22, not 11 February 1732, a discrepancy attributable to the shift to the Gregorian calendar in 1752. He died on 14 December 1799, not 21 December. No explanation can be found for the this error.
