NORMAN. William I 'the Conqueror'. 1066-1087. AR Penny (19mm, 1.38 g, 1h). Profile Right type (BMC vii). Worcester mint; Sæwine, moneyer. Struck circa 1080-1083. Crowned bust right, holding scepter / + SEPINE ON PIHRE, cross pattée, with annulet at center and voided trefoil in each quarter. SCBI –; BMC –; North 847; SCBC 1256. Pleasing satiny find patina. Good VF. Extremely rare – one of only two known examples of this type for Worcester (for other, see BMC 488).
