PHOENICIA, Aradus. Macrinus. AD 217-218. BI Tetradrachm (26mm, 12.11 g, 1h). • AYT KAI M OΠ • • CЄ MAKPINO C, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Eagle standing facing, head and tail left, with wings displayed, holding wreath in beak; crescent between legs. Prieur 1280 corr. (obv. legend). Lightly toned, porosity, patches of find patina. VF. Very rare.

From the André Ronde Collection.

The specimen plated in Prieur, in fact, in most specimens studied, the lower portion of the bust is off-flan. This coin, and a few others in CoinArchives, show clearly that the final C in the obverse legend is below the cuirass on Macrinus’ shoulder.

Closing Date and Time: 21 February 2024 at 11:39:40 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
