Anonymous. temp. Justinian I, circa 530. AR Third Siliqua (14.5mm, 1.04 g, 12h). Constantinople mint. Helmeted, draped, and cuirassed bust of Roma right / Large R. Bendall, Anonymous 9. Toned, flan crack, porosity, scratches on reverse. Good VF. Very rare.

Bendall suggested in his 2002 article that “type 9 might not have been struck until 537 to celebrate the recapture of Rome” (Bendall, 153). Additionally, when compared to many of the more frequently encountered series of third siliquae, “the type is very rare” (ibid).

Closing Date and Time: 3 January 2024 at 13:41:00 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
