GEORGE P REGENT, laureate head left / WATERLOO, Victory seated facing on plinth inscribed WATERLOO, head left, holding palm frond and olive branch; JUNE 18/ 1815 in exergue. Edge: HENRY PRICE 16th OF QUEEN’S LIGHT DRAG. BBM 47; cf. BHM 880; cf. Eimer 1070. Toned, scratches and marks, rough, ex mount. Fine.

Nicknamed “The Scarlet Lancers”, the 16th (Regiment) of Queen's Light Dragoons was a cavalry regiment raised in 1759 by Col. John “Gentleman Johnny” Burgoyne as the 16th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons. In 1769, it was renamed the 16th (The Queen's) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, and served in Americaan Colonies during the Revolution. During the Napoleonic Wars, the regiment supported the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular War (1807-1814). Landing at Ostend in May 1815, during the Hundred Days, they charged under the command of Sir John Ormsby Vandeleur at Waterloo in support of Sir William Ponsonby’s Heavy Brigade. According to the Medal and Award Rolls for Waterloo, 439 men of the regiment received commendation.

In the Army Muster Books and Pay Lists for the 16th Dragoons, 1815-1817, Henry Price (number 354) was one of four privates named Price, two of whom were quartered at Lambeth. He appears in the Waterloo Medal Roll for the Regiment, serving in Captain King’s Troop.
