ASIA MINOR, Uncertain. 2nd-3rd century AD. Æ (18mm, 2.76 g, 12h). Draped bust of Isis(?) right, wearing lotus crown; three pellets behind / [...] IΩN, Emperor, standing facing, head left, holding long scepter, being crowned by Nike on right, holding a cornucopia. Unpublished. Dark green patina, light roughness. VF. Extremely rare and unpublished.

From the Aleph Collection. Ex Bertolami E-Live 71 (16 June 2019), lot 612.

The reverse theme, Tyche crowning an emperor, was common from Macedon to Syria, so that does not help identify the city. The obverse type, however should help narrow it down. If it’s a lunate crown, then that would indicate Selene, or a lotus, identifying Isis, neither are common obverse types. Unfortunately, neither type are found with this reverse or this obverse die.

Closing Date and Time: 16 August 2023 at 12:23:00 ET.

All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
