Revolt of the Heraclii. 608-610. Æ Follis (29mm, 11.55 g, 6h). Uncertain mint, 1st officina. Crowned facing busts of Heraclius, on left, and his father, the exarch Heraclius, on right, both wearing consular robes; cross above / Large M; cross above; A/N/N/[O] - [...] (date) across field; A//[...]. Cf. DOC 17-18 (for type); cf. MIBE 16b and 18 (same); cf. SB 723 and 725 (same). Earthen patina, some scratches. VF. Overstruck on an uncertain follis.

This follis of the revolt of the Heraclii either belongs to the Alexandria or Cypriot mint. Unfortunately, the overstriking has too badly blundered the mint mark to make a definite determination. While the exceptionally clear obverse legend is more indicative of Cyprus, as is the possible faint trefoil decoration of the crowns, the lack of detail in the indictional date and mint mark leaves open the possibility that it is the crowned variety of the Alexandria mint. Ultimately, both possibilities are rare types.
