Laureate head right / OPTI ME M AXIME, C V PP in exergue, Jupiter standing left, holding thunderbolt and inverted spear. RIC III 192 corr. (spear instead of scepter); MIR 18, 754-4/30 corr. (same); RSC 387 corr. (same). Lightly toned, a few shallow scratches. VF. Jupiter’s title on the reverse of this coin was also his most significant title, “Jupiter Optimus Maximus,” meaning that Jupiter is the best and the greatest. |
