P&W type 1, dies 2/II-6 and pl. X, 3 = Carlyon-Britton, Henry VII type 2/3 mule, pl. III, 57 (this coin illustrated); cf. SCBI 23 (Ashmolean), 759 (for type); North 1740; SCBC 2251. Slight doubling on obverse and a few minor edge marks. Otherwise struck on a full flan. Richly toned. VF. Extremely rare.

The first Shilling and the first true likeness of the ruling monarch, the Testoon of Henry VII is a key coin in the British series of which only a handful of specimens survive. The coin offered here is an extremely rare muling of the first type, with small lis, and the second type, wtih large lis, known only from this specimen and the Archbishop Sharp coin (Morton & Eden 91, lot 166).
