France, Lyons(?). Circa AD 1470. Leaf (2.60”x3.74”). Medieval Book of Hours. Leaf containing the last third of prayer entitled: Item alia oratio ad beatissimam virginem Mariam Dei genitricem - or Likewise another prayer to the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. Of uncertain origin, but found in a 1524 French manuscript now in the Library of Congress and again later in the 1599 The Primer, or Office of the Blessed Virgin Marie, in Latin and English. A well-decorated leaf worthy of someone of some means for the time. Ornate green, blue, red, and gold illumination. Good ink quality and readable. Minor browning and small tears at edge, slight fading. Old code penciled in. Near VF.
