Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. Æ Sestertius (34mm, 15.91g). Rome mint; C. Asinius Gallus, moneyer. Struck 16 BC; Countermarks applied during the reign of Tiberius, AD 14-37. Oak wreath between two laurel branches / Legend around large S • C; c/ms: divinity standing left, wearing crescent headdress, within oval incuse; nailed helmet within round incuse. Cf. RIC I 370; c/m: Pangerl 65 and 66. Green patina, holed, very worn. Host coin: Poor; c/ms: Near VF. These countermarks are attributed to Sicily, perhaps to Syracuse?.
