Geta. As Caesar, AD 198-209. AR Denarius (20mm, 3.70 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck AD 208. Bareheaded and draped bust right / Genius standing left, holding grain ears and sacrificing out of patera over lighted and garlanded altar to left. RIC IV 59a; RSC 114a. EF. Well struck on a broad flan. Much luster remaining.
Only rarely does one encounter a truly “medallic” silver denarius of this era, but this example merits the description. Not only is it struck on an especially broad, round flan, with a full border, but the quality of engraving and portraiture are a notch above the usual. Clearly whoever engraved and struck this piece took great pride in their work.
