ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Cnut. 1016-1035. AR Penny (0.93 g, 3h). Helmet type. Lincoln mint; Wulfwine, moneyer. Struck circa 1024-1030. +CNVT REX A, helmeted bust left; scepter to left, cross pattée to right / +PVLFPINE ON LI, voided short cross, limbs united at base by two concentric circles with pellet in center; in each angle, annulet enclosing pellet. Mossop -; cf. SCBI 14 (Copenhagen), 1897-8; cf. BMC 328; North 787 var. (no cross on obv.); SCBC 1158; William Conte Collection (Triton VI, 14 January 2006), lot 1374 (same rev. die). EF, bright surfaces. Very rare variety with cross on obverse.
