SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Antioch. Nerva. AD 96-98. AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 14.45 g). Dated RY 2 (circa November AD 97-28 January 98). Laureate bust right, wearing aegis / Eagle standing facing on thunderbolt, head right; B (date) and palm branch before. Prieur 150. VF.
All of Nerva’s year 2 tetradrachms from Antioch include the title Germanicus, which he received around November AD 97. Since he died just a few months later at the end of January 98, it stands to reason that the coins are very rare. Prieur confirms this by recording just eight specimens.
