Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Roma (or Ares) standing left, holding spear in right hand, parazonium in left, shield resting against spear; palm to left. Köln -; Dattari -; Milne -; Emmett -. Near VF, black patina under some green and earthen encrustation. Very rare denomination for Severus and unrecorded with the shield.

From the Robert Kutcher Collection.

The figure on the reverse of this coin is described by the sources as either Ares or Roma. Both are similarly dressed in military attire wearing a crested helmet. In Emmett, Ares is described holding a spear and parazonium (as this coin), whereas Roma raises her right hand and holds a spear in her left hand. Neither are described with the shield on the ground.
