INDIA. Mughal Empire. Jalal al-Din Akbar.1556-1605. AV Square Mohur (10.63 g, 6h). Jaunpur mint. Dated AH 985 (1577/8 AD). Kalima within calligraphic square; AH date below, floral spray in background / "Padishah" couplet in three lines; mint with epithet - "dar al-Sultanat" below, floral spray in background. Wright -; Hull -; BMC -; KM -. Good VF. ($500)

Although the types are as KM 112, the calligraphic square on the obverse is normally set at an angle to the square flan, creating a diamond-shaped central field. In addition, the mint name appears to read unmistakably "Jaunpur", but the mint epithet "dar-us-Sultanat" is not applied to that city. A curious variant.
