KINGS of MACEDON. Philip V. 221-179 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.52 g, 12h). Pella or Amphipolis mint. First series, circa 220 BC. Diademed head right / BASILEWS FILIPPOU, Athena Alkidemos walking left, brandishing thunderbolt in her right hand, holding shield decorated with star on her left arm; control marks to inner left (SR monogram) and right (EP monogram). Mamroth, Philip 1, pl. 5, 1 (same obv. die); AMNG III 2 (same obverse die as plate coin); SNG München 1124; SNG Alpha Bank 1049; McClean 3628 (same obv. die). Good VF, attractively toned around devices, minor porosity. Rare first issue of Philip. ($3000)
