BOIOTIA, Tanagra. Early-mid 4th century BC. Lot of two AR Obols. Both coins: Boiotian shield / Forepart of horse right; all within incuse flat circle with curved edge. Varieties: (a) 0.96 g. Reverse: no letters visible. This variety unpublished in the standard references // (b) 0.71 g. Reverse: T above horse, A before. Head, Boeotia p. 52. Both coins Fine to Near VF condition. Two (2) coins in lot. ($200)

(a) is stylistically quite different from most hands encountered in the series; there is some affinity with the horses of lots 276, 277, and 281(b) above. On the other hand, (b) displays signs of a rather unsuccessful attempt to copy earlier, more accomplished renderings, such as lot 291 above.
