BOIOTIA, Federal Coinage. Circa 304-294 BC. AR Drachm (5.29 g). Boiotian shield / Amphora in incuse square; pellet above. This variety unpublished in the standard references. VF, even pearl grey tone. Very rare variety with pellet. ($500)

Ex Malter 55 (7 November 1993), lot 131.

Although there are other die breaks on the reverse, the characteristics of the pellet, its near-perfect centering between the amphora's handles as well as the amphora's rim and the edge of the incuse suggest that it is a pellet rather than a die break. The pellet occurs frequently in the issues with d-5, but is very rare among the anepigraphic issues.
