AR Bracteate Pfennig (0.82 gm). +S-S STEPH AnVS PROTH O MAR/TIR, nimbate St. Stephan kneeling within crenellated framework, the Hand of God above; gammadion (swastika) in left field. Bonhoff 460; Löbbecke 19; Reichmann 641. Good VF, lightly toned. Fine Romanesque style. ($750)

The gammadion (an earlier version of the swastika) was the coat-of-arms of the noble von Tale family of Brunswick. This small mark may represent a mintmaster's symbol.
