MAURICE TIBERIUS. 582-602 AD. AV Light-Weight Solidus of 19 Siliquae(?) (3.36 gm, 6h). Uncertain mint. [dN MAV]RIC TIber GPP AV, diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed facing bust, holding globus cruciger and shield / VICTORIA AVGG, angel standing facing, holding staff surmounted by christogram and plain globus; Q/CONXX. DOC I -; MIB II -; SB -. Good VF. ($300)

From the Malcolm W. Heckman Collection.

This unpublished light-weight solidus shows no sign of weight loss through clipping, and thus appears to be a 19 siliquae piece that can be added to the 23, 22 and 20 siliquae pieces. It does not seem to be related stylistically to any of the known mint series, and mus613.t be the product of a short-lived provincial mint.
