MEDIEVAL. SASANIAN KINGS. Shahpur I. 240-272 AD. AR Drachm (4.17 gm, 9h). Mint I. "The Mazda worshipper, the divine Shahpur, the king of kings of Iran who is descended from the Gods" in Pahlavi, crowned and cuirassed bust right; investiture crown with eagle's head holding pellet in its beak and decorated with a fravahr (wreath) symbol / "Fire of Shahpur" in Pahlavi, fire altar with attendants; pellet to left of altar column. Cf. SNS Type Ib/1a; cf. Göbl IV/1; cf. Paruck 97; cf. Alram 699; MACW -; De Morgan -. Good VF, slight roughness. Exceptional for issue. Very rare series, and unpublished with the fravahr symbol.
