KINGS of THRACE. Lysimachos. 323-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (28mm, 16.62 gm). Perinthos mint. Struck circa 283-279 BC. Diademed head of deified Alexander right, wearing horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, holding Nike and resting arm on shield, spear behind; two horse protomes joined back to back and monogram in inner left field,
ZW(?) in exergue. Cf. Thompson 256; cf. Meydancikkale 2688; SNG Copenhagen -; cf. SNG Ashmolean 3756; cf. Müller 130-138. VF.
The conjoined horse foreparts are the recognized mint symbol for these issues. The attribution of them to the mint of Perinthos, however, is tentative. If such a Lysimachian mint did exist, these issues must have been struck shortly before or after the battle of Korupedion.
