INDIA. Mughal Kings. Nur al-Din Muhammad Jahangir. 1605-1628. AV Heavy Mohur (Nur Jahani) (13.03 gm). Agra mint. Dated AH 1017, regnal year 3 (1608 AD). Titles of Jahangir, as "emperor [Khosrau] of the world" in floral field / Mint and regnal year in floral field. MWI -; KM 183.3; Wright -. Near EF. Extremely rare. ($8000)

Jahangir experimented with increasing the weight of the gold mohur, striking 20% heavier pieces called “nur jahani” after his wife, and 25% heavier pieces named after himself: “jahangiri”. The present specimen is from an extraordinary issue of these heavyweight coins and makes use of a remarkable epithet for the emperor: “Khosrau”. Jahangir is recalling his descent from Babur, who claimed the throne of Persia, and thus is asserting himself to be the legitimate successor to the ancient Achaemenid and Sasanian rulers of the Persian Empire
