KINGS of THRACE, Macedonian. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (30mm, 16.50 g, 12h). Amphipolis mint. Struck circa 288/7-282/1 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, transverse spear in background; kerykeion to inner left, N on throne, barley grain (or tunny?) in exergue. Thompson –; Müller 111 var. (no N on throne); HGC 3, 1750l; Agora 40, lot 11 (same dies); Coin Galleries, 14 Dec. 2005, lot 48 (same obv. die). Toned, some porosity. Near VF. Very rare.

From the J.B. Collection, purchased Autumn 2000.

Although this particular issue is not listed in Thompson, the style of the obverse of the die used here is identical to that found on some issues at Amphipolis (cf. Thompson pl. 21, 202), suggesting they are the product of a single engraver.
