JUDAEA, Neapolis. Macrinus. AD 217-218. AR Tetradrachm (23.5mm, 12.68 g, 12h). Struck AD 215-217. Laureate bust right, slight drapery(?) / Temple complex atop Mt. Gerizim; all within beaded border supported by eagle standing facing, head and tail left, with wings spread. Prieur 1711 var. (obv. bust type); Sofaer –; Emporium Hamburg 84, lot 248 (same dies). VF, toned, some porosity and deposits. Extremely rare, only one noted by Prieur, and one in CoinArchives (Emporium Hamburg 84, lot 248).

From the Michel Prieur Collection.

It is possible that the specimen plated in Prieur’s book also has slight drapery on Macrinus’ bust, as does the Emporium Hamburg coin.
