Augustus. 27 BC-AD 14. AR Denarius (21mm, 3.73 g, 5h). Uncertain Spanish mint (Colonia Caesaraugusta?). Struck 19-18 BC. Head left, wearing oak wreath / [C]AESAR above, AVGVSTVS below, round shield inscribed CL • V. RIC I 35; BMCRE 321; RSC 53a corr. (without laurel trees). Near VF, toned, some light marks and scratches, banker’s mark on the obverse, graffito in right obverse field. Extremely rare variety (R4 in RIC), and the first we have offered in recent memory.
