CILICIA, Diocaesarea. Faustina Junior. Augusta, AD 147-175. Æ (27mm, 15.15 g, 6h). Draped bust right / Winged thunderbolt. Staffieri 12; SNG BN 874-5 (Annia Faustina). Near VF, brown surfaces, roughness.

There is some disagreement as to who is represented on this coin. The obverse legend “Annia Faustina Augusta” led the authors of SNG BN to attribute the coin to Annia Faustina, wife of Elagabalus. Staffieri, Sear, and Ziegler all refer to her as Faustina Junior, as the style better fits Faustina Junior and the name “Annia” is found on some other rare coins of hers. Furthermore, it appears that coins in the name of Elagabalus were not struck at Diocaesarea, so a coin in his wife’s name would be unlikely.
