SARDINIA, Turris Libisonis? M. Lurius, Octavian's governor. Circa 42-40 BC. Æ 28mm-Semiuncial As (15.99 gm). Male head right, of Lurius?; plough beneath, [M]•L•D•C•P around / Hexastyle temple; Q•A•M•P•C•[II]•V. RPC I 622. Very Rare.

RPC notes the unusual portrait style of these coins and links it - through the plow - tentatively, to the governor of Sardinia and presumed founder of the city, M. Lurius. The meaning of the legends is still uncertain however, as is the identity of the portrait, and, for that matter, that of the temple. See RPC I pg. 162 for further discussion.
