Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. C. Pansa and Albinus Bruti f. 48 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.96 g, 2h). Rome mint. Mask of bearded Pan right / Two right hands clasped and holding winged caduceus. Crawford 451/1; CRI 28; Sydenham 944; Vibia 22; Type as RBW –. VF, toned. Rare.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex Karl Sifferman Collection (Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 171, 22 August 2007), lot 251.

This type is considerably rarer than most collectors realize. Its obverse design also appears on the common RRC 449/1a Vibia type, and its reverse on the common RRC 450/2 Postumia type. The combination type is, however, rare and its engraving style is better than that of either RRC 449 or RRC 450. [Andrew McCabe]
