The town of Galepsos was located on the Strymon Gulf, about 20 kilometers east of Amphipolis, and not far from the island of Thasos, where Bon reported the finding of one of its coins. No example of its coinage appears in any of the major collections, and the town is not even recorded as a mint in Sear or any of the other basic handbooks of Greek coins. The coinage was first noted in an article by A.-M. Bon, “Monnaie inédite de Galepsos”, in BCH LX (1936), pp. 172-174, although only one variety, with goat right, was known at the time.
