385, Lot: 396. Estimate $100.
Sold for $950. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Anonymous. Circa 214-212 BC. Æ Uncia (18mm, 5.95 g, 8h). Luceria mint. Helmeted head of Roma right; • (mark of value) to left / Prow of galley right, with five mariners on deck; • (mark of value) below. Crawford 43/5 var. (without five mariners); Sydenham 129 var. (same); RBW 156 var. (same). VF, dark green to black patina, some deposits and light smoothing. Unique and unpublished.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection. Ex Inasta 38 (15 February 2011), lot 413.

Not in Crawford. No reverse mintmark, and with variant reverse prow type with five mariners on deck, no corvus, and no club within raised deck structure. Contrast to Crawford RRC pl. VIII, 12 for regular 43/5 type. This type not in RBW. The five mariner reverse type with mintmark is as yet unpublished, though known from other specimens. Its style matches the 43/4 sextans (previous lot) and is evidently an earlier series than the regular 43/5 uncia. This coin, which also lacks a mintmark, is apparently unique and unpublished. [A.
