L. Hostilius Saserna. 48 BC. AR Denarius (20mm, 4.09 gm). Head of Vercingetorix right, Gallic shield behind / Naked Gallic warrior, brandishing shield and spear, standing left in biga being driven right by second Gaul holding whip. Crawford 448/2a or b; Sydenham 952 or 952a; Hostilia 2 or 2a. Lightly toned VF, reverse die rust, oblong flan, reverse slightly off-centered, partial flat strike. Rare.

From the Tony Hardy Collection.

The die rust on the reverse at the location of the cognomen as well as the off center strike make a more specific attribution of the variety impossible, though both are rare and highly popular types.
