ANGLO-SAXON. Cnut. 1016-1035. AR Penny (0.87 gm). Lincoln mint; Ugerleth(?), moneyer. Quatrefoil type, circa 1017-1023. +CNVT REX ANGLORV, crowned bust left in quadrilobe / +VG-ERL-EDM-OLIN, voided long cross on circular quatrefoil with pellet at each apex. Mossop -; North 781; SCBC 1157. EF. Unpublished moneyer. ($400)

From the William J. Conte Collection.

The bust style and lettering conventions clearly support the Lincoln mint attribution. The second letter of the moneyer's name may be open to a different reading, but the name itself is not obviously blundered, and no variant of U_erleth appears among the lists of Anglo-Saxon moneyers.
