NERO CLAUDIUS DRUSUS, father of Claudius. AR Denarius (3.71 gm). Struck under Claudius, 41-45 AD. NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP, laureate head left / DE GE-R-M-ANIS, two shields, two pair of spears and two trumpets crossed over vexillum with flag. RIC I 74 (Claudius); cf. Von Kaenel 281 (V174/R176; aureus); BMCRE 107 (Claudius); cf. BN 7-8 (aureus of the same type); RSC 6. Good VF. Struck from aureus dies. Very rare. ($1000)

Striking of denarii with aurei dies were not uncommon for these Claudian commemorative issues. The present coin, however, is the only known example of these particular aureus dies being used for denarii (cf. von Kaenel pg. 60, 223).
