SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 17.33 g, 1h). Struck circa 460-450 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving quadriga right; above, Nike flying left, crowning charioteer with open wreath held in both hands; in exergue, ketos right / Diademed head of Arethusa right, wearing single-pendant earring and necklace; ΣVRAKOΣIO-N and four dolphins around. Boehringer Series XIVb, 499 (V263/R356); HGC 2, 1312; SNG ANS 158; BMC 80; Jameson 762 (all from the same dies). Near EF, light gray toning with hues of gold. Struck from artistic reverse die.
